Essential Functions

  • Work with youth and/or their families in an office-based setting and within a school setting.
  • Provide services within on-call hours to assist law enforcement and the local community with youth who have runaway or have been locked out of their home.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling services to youth and families aged 10 to 25 with a wide range of concerns.
  • Collaborate with community partners such as schools, police departments, juvenile probation, DCFS case workers, and mental health agencies/hospitals.
  • Maintain client records in an electronic health record in accordance with agency standards.
  • Provide data and reports as needed in compliance with agency requirements.
  • Adhere to agency policy on confidential mental health records in compliance with DHS and CCBYS requirements.
  • Provide community information and linkage to referral services for youth and their families.
  • Assist with crisis coverage as part of the 24-hour crisis response system for CCBYS as designated by the Clinical Director.
  • Provide crisis intervention and advocacy services to at-risk youth with the purpose of family preservation, reunification, and stabilization while promoting healthy environments, lifestyles, and behaviors.
  • Perform evening hours for sessions and some minimal weekend and holiday on-call coverage through the CCBYS program.

Knowledge and Ability Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of trauma-informed clinical practices related to working with youth ages 10 to 25, including those who have experienced complex trauma.
  • Ability to provide effective individual, group, and family counseling in both office-based and school settings.
  • Certainty in addressing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and behavioral issues.
  • Proficiency in collaborating with community partners such as schools, police departments, juvenile probation, DCFS case workers, and mental health agencies.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate and confidential client records, including using electronic health record systems.
  • Skills in crisis intervention and advocacy, with experience in a 24-hour crisis response system, and promoting family preservation and stabilization.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed treatment approaches and strength-based practices, with a commitment to professionalism, flexibility, and continuous learning.
  • Preference for candidates with CCBYS experience or bilingual skills.

Education and Experience

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited program in counseling, psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy is required.
  • Candidates must hold or have the prerequisites to obtain a State License, such as LPC, LSW, LCPC, LMFT, or LCSW.
  • Preferred candidates will have relevant experience working with youth and knowledge of trauma-informed treatment approaches.

Physical Demands and Other Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Sometimes required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Capable of operating standard office equipment, including a computer and keyboard, calculator, typical business machines such as a fax machine and copier.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to have valid driver’s license, auto insurance and must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • The work environment characteristics include a noise level which is usually low to moderate.

Reports possible misconduct or relevant errors/oversight in a timely manner and responsibly addresses related issues with chain of command.
  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Consistently conveys clear, accurate, timely, and respectful communication appropriate for the situation. Informs appropriate management staff when incident occurs or a crisis situation. Maintains professional boundaries with clients/residents, staff, interns, volunteers, and vendors. Able to successfully share skills and concepts with others and works effectively with others under time and environmental pressures.
  • Safety and Agency Resource Utilization: Demonstrates sound judgement and foresight in safety awareness and in daily work. Notifies, in a timely manner, the supervisory chain of any incidents or circumstances that need attention. Reports all suspicions or allegations of abuse immediately to their supervisor. Ensures appropriate utilization of materials and resources and minimizes waste.
