Clinical Term – Assistant or Associate Professor Equine Field Services
About the role
Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full‑time Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor faculty position in Equine Field Services in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The successful candidate will join three other equine ambulatory veterinarians (Drs. Joan Howard (ABVP), Lauren Hughes (ACVIM‑LA) and Kara Frerichs) to enhance the regional prominence of the Equine Field Services program through clinical service, teaching, and scholarship. The position is based out of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), a state‑of‑the‑art teaching hospital providing specialized care for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. The LVMC features digital radiography, advanced dental equipment, ultrasounds, a mobile endoscopic unit for upper airway exams and gastroscopy, a fully functional storeroom, stocked pharmacy, clinician offices, and ambulatory veterinary trucks with truck bays. The majority of the work will be professional ambulatory clinical practice, including training veterinary students and house officers in the large animal rotating internship program. The role expects a customer‑centric service philosophy, collegial work environment, and development of a niche area within equine veterinary medicine. Participation in didactic and laboratory teaching, independent or collaborative scholarship, and academic service is expected, with the balance of research and other activities commensurate with experience, rank, interests, and the Position Responsibility Statement. Some after‑hours ambulatory on‑call for Equine Field Services will be shared (average ~25‑30%). The proposed start date is January 2, 2027, with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2029 (12‑month work period, full‑time). Ames, Iowa (population ~60,000, ~30 minutes north of Des Moines) offers a vibrant college‑town atmosphere with camping, bike paths, golf courses, state parks, an aquatic center, farmers’ markets, and Big XII sporting events.
