About the role
The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. Duties include greeting patients, escorting them to exam rooms, performing diagnostic tests, documenting patient information, maintaining clinic cleanliness, and assisting with minor surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and explain their appointment process
- Escort patients to exam rooms and perform diagnostic tests under supervision
- Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical records system
- Prepare patients for sterile procedures and assist with minor surgeries
- Educate patients about medication administration and post-operative instructions
- Scribe for physicians and maintain patient confidentiality
- De-escalate patient dissatisfaction with respectful communication
- Stay updated on eye anatomy, diseases, medications, and technological advancements
- Assist with other special projects as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Standing or sitting for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs

- Effective problem-solving skills
- Basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
