Clinical Technician

About the role

The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. Duties include greeting patients, performing diagnostic tests, documenting patient information, assisting with minor surgeries, and educating patients.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and explain their appointment
• Escort patients to exam rooms and perform diagnostic tests
• Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical records system
• Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and capture past medical history
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
• Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments
• Educate patients regarding the administration of medications and pre and post-operative instructions
• Secure patient information and maintain confidentiality
• Use effective problem-solving skills to de-escalate dissatisfied patients
• Stay current with the latest technologies and medications
• Absorb basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs

Qualifications

• Desired: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Entry level: 0-3 years of experience

• Basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
