About the role
The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. Duties include greeting patients, performing diagnostic tests, documenting patient information, assisting with minor surgeries, and educating patients.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and explain their appointment
- Escort patients to exam rooms and perform diagnostic tests
- Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical records system
- Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and capture past medical history
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
- Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments
- Educate patients regarding the administration of medications and pre and post-operative instructions
- Secure patient information and maintain confidentiality
- Use effective problem-solving skills to de-escalate dissatisfied patients
- Stay current with the latest technologies and medications
- Absorb basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
Qualifications
- Desired: Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Entry level: 0-3 years of experience
