Job Duties

  • Provide ongoing feedback on direct patient care and clinical assignments to support student learning, development, and safe clinical practice.
  • Guide students in various clinical care areas, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.
  • Collaborate with department faculty to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Foster a learning environment that develops students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to prepare for clinical, lab, and simulation instruction.
  • Create a clinical learning environment conducive to effective learning within resource limits.
  • Apply and enforce student-related policies and standards in accordance with KUMC policies, including addressing issues related to student conduct, performance, and professionalism.
  • Utilize institutional technology systems, including learning management systems, e-mail platforms, and office software, to support instructions, communication, grading, and documentation.
  • Evaluate student progress using established program and School of Nursing methods, including clinical performance evaluations, competency checklist, direct observation, and adherence to course grading criteria and clinical objectives.
  • Maintain records in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal standards to support compliance and program requirements.
  • Attend all required orientations.
  • Attend ALL clinical and lab classes.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Work Experience: One (1) year of relevant patient care experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a nursing program, with a least one course taught.
  • Two (2) years of relevant patient experience.
  • Experience precepting and/or mentoring nurses.
