Clinical Systems Engineer

Summary

This role supports and advances patient care by applying engineering skills to healthcare IT needs. It is a consultative position providing IT education, quality control, implementations, and vendor management. Primary goals include project planning, lifecycle analysis of equipment, and process improvement initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Develop a 5-year capital equipment plan (for existing & new operations)
    • Needs analysis/assessment model
    • An analysis of cost/benefit, total cost of ownership (TCO), return on investment (ROI)
    • A comparative evaluation of available technologies
  • Maintains medical device hazards/recalls reports and ensures appropriate follow-up (communication, corrective action & documentation)
  • Reviews service options for major clinical systems to determine optimum service plan
  • Monitors regulatory developments and implements appropriate compliance measures (TJC, DNV, State & Local)
  • Conducts investigations of incidents involving medical technology, analyzes findings and implements or makes recommendations for corrective measures including root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA)
  • Conducts regular client surveys to assess the perceived effectiveness of clinical engineering services; analyzes results and recommends appropriate service and process changes
  • Implements process improvements (both personal & program-related) that add value by improving quality, safety, savings, efficiency, work environment
  • May perform other duties as requested or assigned
  • Maintains technical library and database with information critical to the support of devices and systems in assigned area(s)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering and clinical systems support
  • Strong written and verbal communication and team-building skills across functional areas
  • Effective role model
  • Demonstrated project management & planning skills
  • Certification (completed or in process) preferred in Clinical Engineering (i.e., Certified Clinical Engineer /CCE)

  • Safety Requirements: Maintains a safe working environment for self and others if they come in contact within the biomed area in accordance with the facility’s policies
  • Must follow OSHA guidelines in regard to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, radiation, sharp instruments and/or tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices
  • Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot & cold ranges of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish colors
  • Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely
