About the Role

A clinically competent registered professional nurse who delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Supervises, delegates, and coordinates patient care provided throughout Maternal Child Services. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in Labor & Delivery, Maternal Child, Well Baby, and Special Care Nursery. Effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and the health care team while maintaining professional nursing standards. Works directly under the supervision of the Director of Maternal Child Services.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with preceptors and preceptees and coordinates with the Clinical Coordinator regarding performance.
  • Assists in coordinating employee schedules, vacation, and PTO requests with the Manager.
  • Manages staffing in coordination with the Director, House Supervisors, and other managers.
  • Handles call-ins and replacement staffing.
  • Manages concurrent patient complaints, concerns, and issues, documenting appropriately.
  • Delegates assignments for POCTs, RNs, and UCs.
  • Performs oral and written disciplinary actions with affirmation from the Director.
  • Investigates all occurrences, including writing detailed reports for the Director.
  • Completes or assigns QA items: crash cart checks, temperature logs, white glove inspections, point-of-care testing logs and controls, and other QA issues.
  • Leads, with assistance from the Clinical Coordinator, all emergency codes (e.g., green, orange).
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency of L&D, Maternal Child, and Nursery drugs, including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, Insulin, and triple antibiotic therapy.
  • Completes daily assessments for the care of mother and neonate.
  • Assists with stabilization of infants in Special Care and understands all related procedures.
  • Participates in annual education days.
  • Acts as a mentor and resource for new employees.

Requirements

  • Current RN Ohio Licensure.
  • Minimum five years of clinical experience, with at least three in Maternal Child/Labor & Delivery settings.
  • Completion of full training in at least two of the three unit areas, with modified cross-training in the third area.
  • BLS Certification (Mandatory).
  • NRP Certification (Mandatory).
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of proper daily unit functioning.
