Responsibilities
- Supports administrative responsibility for department service functions and collaborates with the unit Director and/or Manager.
- Assumes administrative scope of the unit in the absence of the unit Director and/or Manager.
- Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with federal/state regulations.
- Prepares, conducts, and oversees department orientation and training of personnel.
- Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally.
- Accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift.
- Assists the Department Director in daily operations, directing, supervising, and evaluating personnel to ensure proper use of time, equipment, and staff.
- Ensures efficient department functions.
- Performs direct patient care as needed within the scope of practice.
- Continually assesses care and directs staff to make immediate changes in the plan of care.
Requirements
- Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC required within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Minimum of one year as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; E.D. setting preferred.
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certificate within 12 months of hire.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) within 2 years of hire preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
Facility/Unit Training
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certificate preferred for Intensive Care.
- In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN certification within 12 months of hire.
- EDAP Certified Facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 & 2 within 30 days of hire; minimum of 4 hours of CEU in Pediatric Training Classes per year; ENPC preferred.
- Non-OB facilities: Advanced or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate within 30 days of hire.
- Professional Certification within 2 years of hire preferred.
