About the role

The Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Clinical Social Worker (PCN 26543) to join and be a vital member of our Clinical Services team in New Haven.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based clinical services to a caseload of individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments using multiple clinical tools.
• Deliver individual, family, and group therapy tailored to clients with chronic and complex needs.
• Support clients who frequently utilize emergency rooms, homeless shelters, food pantries, and other community resources.
• Address barriers related to trauma, incarceration, housing instability, financial strain, and unmet medical or mental health needs.
• Maintain treatment for a full caseload following the departure and advancement of a former team member.

Requirements

This position plays a key role in providing evidence-based clinical care to a caseload of individuals living with serious mental illness and co-occurring conditions, and complex challenges.

Qualifications

• Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.
• Experience providing clinical treatment to adults with chronic, serious mental health and co-occurring disorders.
• Experience utilizing evidence-based practice techniques for treating mental health and co-occurring substance use disordered adult clients in individual and group treatment modalities.
• Experience creating client-centered treatment plans, documenting clinical sessions, and meeting documentation deadlines and productivity standards.
• Experience maintaining positive working relationships within a multidisciplinary team and outside providers.
• Experience assessing and treating clients in crisis with suicidal ideation and complex trauma.

Skills

Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work, and community mobilization; family and interpersonal relationship dynamics; values, sanctions, purposes, and ethics of professional social work; social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological, and legal issues which influence attitudes and behaviors of clients and families; mental illnesses and approaches to treatment; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to devise and implement a treatment plan with measurable goals that address client needs; independent application of current psychiatric treatment modalities to address client needs.
