Clinical Secretary - Lima Family Practice
About the Role
The Clinical Secretary participates in the multi-disciplinary, team-based process of patient care via the provision of office administrative support. This role is vital in ensuring whole patient care is made available to each individual through various tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, managing referrals and prior authorizations, and resolving issues. The Clinical Secretary is also responsible for verifying eligibility, collecting patient payments, and ensuring compliance and maximum reimbursement. They must understand and apply knowledge of multiple insurance benefits to specific patient needs, manage documentation in the electronic medical record system, and maintain an efficient and organized office. This position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload with accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Answer phones and schedule appointments conveniently for patients.
- Manage accurate and timely referrals and prior authorizations.
- Verify patient eligibility and collect appropriate payments.
- Ensure compliance and maximum reimbursement for services.
- Input, classify, and manage documentation in the electronic medical record system.
- Assist in maintaining an efficient and organized office.
- Support physicians and nurses, and actively participate in department meetings.
- Identify ways to improve processes and service to patients.
- Guard the confidentiality of sensitive information, including patient and staff data.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical terminology required.
- Medical secretarial experience required.
- Medical background required.
- Strong EMR experience preferred.
- Computer knowledge and skills, including Outlook and Microsoft Office, required.
- Knowledge of multiple insurance policies, administrative requirements, copayments, and benefit coverage strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Medical Administrative certification preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in administrative support within a medical office setting, including EMR, Microsoft Word, and insurer systems.
- Ability to schedule appointments creatively and efficiently, classify documents, and perform patient outreaches.
- Understanding of insurance verification, Medicare Secondary Payor, and HIPAA compliance.
- Patient-centered approach to care, adhering to NCQA's Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) requirements.
- Time management, keyboarding, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with providers, staff, and Practice Management.
- Leadership skills and active support of practice and system goals.
Pay
Pay Range: $17.97 - $22.00
Starting Pay: Based on Experience
