About the role
AFC Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Clinical Scribe/Medical Assistant to support our providers and patient-care team in a busy urgent care environment. This hybrid role combines hands-on Medical Assistant responsibilities with real-time clinical documentation in Experity. The ideal candidate can anticipate a provider’s needs, document accurately while care is being delivered, and help keep patients moving efficiently from arrival through discharge. We need someone who works with urgency, stays composed under pressure, and maintains accuracy and compassion, especially during our busiest shifts.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Scribing and Documentation
- Accompany providers during patient encounters and document visits in Experity in real time
- Accurately capture the history of present illness, review of systems, examination findings, procedures, treatments and other information as directed by the provider
- Prepare charts for provider review and completion
- Enter diagnoses, orders, prescriptions, referrals and discharge information only as directed by the provider and within the scope of the position
- Track pending laboratory and imaging results and promptly alert the provider when results are available
- Help providers maintain complete, timely and accurate documentation throughout the shift
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and documentation standards
- Medical Assistant Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs, medical histories, medication lists and reasons for visit
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures and treatments
- Perform point-of-care testing, including strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis and other in-house testing
- Draw blood and prepare specimens for in-house and reference laboratory processing
- Administer medications and injections according to provider orders and clinic protocols
- Perform drug screens, physicals and occupational-medicine services
- Prepare and clean exam rooms, sterilize instruments and maintain clinical supplies
- Provide discharge instructions and reinforce provider-directed follow-up plans
- Respond to patient calls, laboratory messages and follow-up needs
- Step into other clinical responsibilities when necessary to maintain efficient patient flow
Requirements
- Previous experience using Experity EMR is strongly preferred
- Previous medical scribe or real-time clinical documentation experience
- At least one year of experience in urgent care, emergency medicine or another high-volume outpatient setting preferred
- Medical Assistant certification
- Proficiency in medical terminology, clinical documentation and electronic medical records
- Strong typing skills with the ability to listen, organize information and document accurately in real time
- Comfortable performing phlebotomy, point-of-care testing and laboratory work
- Ability to move quickly between documentation and hands-on patient-care responsibilities
- Excellent attention to detail, communication and organizational skills
- Dependable, adaptable and willing to support the team wherever needed
- Ability to remain calm, professional and patient-focused during high-volume periods
