About the role

The role involves an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, highly motivated HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist to join the Scottish Microbiology Laboratories (SMiRL) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver highly specialised phenotypic and molecular microbiology techniques for reference laboratory testing
  • Contribute to quality control and assurance of laboratory methods to ensure accurate and reliable results
  • Lead or support service development, including introducing new tests, methodologies, and technologies (e.g. Whole Genome Sequencing)
  • Participate in research, clinical audit, and molecular development projects within the department
  • Analyse, interpret, validate, and report complex laboratory results, providing specialist clinical advice to users
  • Train, teach, and support the development of medical, scientific, and technical staff
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders while contributing to routine service delivery and operational activities

Requirements

  • Upper second or first class Honours degree in relevant science e.g. Medical Microbiology
  • Master's Degree (MSc) in a relevant field or equivalent qualification
  • Completion of the nationally accredited STP scientist training scheme
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration as a Clinical Scientist

Qualifications and/or Experience

  • Applications from individuals with the relevant qualifications who are eligible to begin their Health and Care Professions Council Registration as a Clinical Scientist will also be considered
