Clinical Responder

Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Family Counseling Center Director, the Clinical Responder delivers clinical, case management, and crisis services to persons referred by local police departments. The role creates a positive, therapeutic environment that supports individuals in achieving their stated goals as a member of the Mobile Crisis Response Unit (MCRU).

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic services to individuals referred to the program.
• Assist the Program Manager with partnership, community outreach, case management, data collection, benefit verification, billing, identification of referrals, follow-up, and outcome achievement.
• Ensure data is objectively collected.
• Facilitate individual and/or family therapy sessions.
• Administer screening and assessment tools.
• Develop treatment plans for individuals and families engaged in treatment.
• Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and quarterly task force meetings with OPPD.
• Make appropriate referrals for psychological and psychosocial needs and follow up to confirm service access.
• Assist with service records, database, and statistics.
• Participate in biweekly supervision with the Program Manager.
• Work closely with first responders and other community entities (e.g., Silver Cross and Palos Hospitals).
• Participate in Roll Call Trainings and Ride Alongs.
• Respond and deliver services within 24-48 hours of referral.
• Provide on-call emergency consultation face-to-face in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other Clinical Responders and participate in weekly team meetings.
• Assist with intakes, verify insurance, and manage billing.
• Monitor programmatic goals and outcomes, adapting to meet or exceed them.
• Attend court proceedings as requested and prepare related documents.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on program needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (required). Master’s Degree in psychology or related field (preferred).
• Completion of QBS safety care training, CPR, and First Aid (upon hire).
• Experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
• Ability to collaborate with a team and promote positive staff relationships and morale.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.

Skills

• Considerable knowledge of child and family development, family systems theory, individual and family therapy (ACT, DBT), and crisis-focused interventions.
• Considerable knowledge of community resources in Cook, Will, and DuPage counties.
• Strong communication, leadership, and counseling skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with OPPD and local providers.
• Ability to diagnose under supervision using DSM-IV-TR and DSM-5.
• Strong interest in treating individuals with chronic mental illness.
• Knowledge of substance abuse treatment and presentation.
• Comfort with testifying in court and working within the legal system.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.
• Ability to push and pull 75 pounds.
• Ability to complete deep knee squats.
• Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Operate motor vehicles.
• Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard.
• Physical activities may include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.

Pay

$55,000 per year.
