Clinical Research Study Assistant II - Radiology
About the role
This position will be involved in collection and analyses of high-density diffuse optical tomography (HD-DOT) data at the bedside from patients who are on ECMO maintenance for a project funded by the American Heart Association. Our Brain Light Laboratory, part of the Biophotonics Research Center in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is a diverse and interdisciplinary team whose research focuses on developing novel tools that extend mapping of brain function beyond current limitations. We harness the power of diffuse optics to create portable and wearable systems for minimally constrained imaging of brain function. This technology facilitates mapping brain function in participants who are especially challenging to study with fMRI such as toddlers and children with autism and patients undergoing surgery or intensive care.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

- Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation according to study protocol; obtains consent, interviews study subjects and schedules follow-ups as needed.
- Responsible for data collection of optical functional neuroimaging data from sensitive patient populations in critical care settings.
- Responsible in data analyses ranging from basic data quality control to more advanced spatial and temporal analyses of HD-DOT data, to relating variance in this data with concurrent physiological metrics we well as short- and long-term outcomes.
- Performs basic/scripted assessments to confirm eligibility to participate in study; explains and schedules laboratory and diagnostic procedures and/or treatment as required in the study; refers participants to basic resources as necessary.
