About the role

The Respiratory Therapist II position at Dominican Hospital involves joining an established team of RTs who specialize in cardiopulmonary care. The role requires managing a variety of treatments, developing and executing care plans, and ensuring calm, focused intervention in both routine and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Initiates and monitors mechanical ventilation to ensure adequate patient ventilation according to protocol or physician orders.
• Draws blood from arterial lines using appropriate infection control techniques.
• Extubates patients as per Cardiac and ICU protocols or physician orders.
• Organizes and provides a comprehensive patient report to the incoming shift.
• Approaches physicians to clarify prescribed therapy and recommends modifications when necessary.
• Affirms the use of oxygen by performing pulse oximetry to verify medical necessity. Recommends changes in therapy as needed.

Requirements

• Associate of Science degree from an accredited school of respiratory therapy and associated clinical rotations.
• One year of experience as a respiratory therapist.
• Respiratory Care Practitioner certification in California.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.

Preferred

• Two years of experience as a respiratory therapist.
