About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Coordinator to join the brain imaging groups of Dr. Yan Li and Dr. Janine Lupo at the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating research brain imaging studies, performing independently or with general direction to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management and coordination of multiple clinical research studies, depending on their size and complexity.
  • Act as intermediary between services and departments while overseeing data and specimen management.
  • Enroll and consent patients into research studies.
  • Manage and report on study results.
  • Create, clean, update, and manage databases and comprehensive datasets and reports.
  • Coordinate staff work schedules, assist with training of staff/learners, and assist with oversight of other research staff.
  • Manage Investigator’s protocols in the Committee on Human Research online system, including renewals and modifications of protocol applications and implementation of new studies.
  • Participate in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies and oversee study data integrity.
  • Implement and maintain periodic quality control procedures.
  • Interface with departments to obtain UCSF approval prior to study initiation.
  • Maintain all regulatory documents and report study progress to investigators.
  • Participate in internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments, and outside institutions.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with patients and demonstrate patience, respect, and compassion to study participants and their families.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: BCBA certification or experience working with clinical research imaging studies.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biomedical imaging, applied math, engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Preferred: Experience with brain imaging data processing techniques and/or programming skills.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in Matlab, Python, statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R).
  • Preferred: Fluency in the usage of the Committee of Human Research (CHR) online iMEDris system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols.
  • Preferred: Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight into what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.
  • Preferred: Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, research guidelines, confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, and guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances.
  • Preferred: Experience with database building/analysis and data management using platforms such as Access, Stata, SAS/SPSS, and Teleform.
  • Preferred: Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:
    • Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • The Protection of Human Research Subjects
    • CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
    • Effective Cash Handling Procedures
    • Environmental Health and Safety Training
    • Fire Safety Training
