About the role
The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurology seeks a Clinical Research Coordinator to conduct all aspects of clinical research trials from site initiation through activation and completion under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
Responsibilities
- Prepare grant applications, manuscripts, Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, research papers, and assist with complex research papers.
- Audit research studies, monitor study budgets, resolve complex data collection issues, and implement protocol-specific study recruitment plans.
- Train staff and oversee student workers; lead team meetings.
- Conduct study start-up and documentation; develop and track budgets.
- Handle IRB submissions and consent forms; implement protocols across UPMC departments.
- Manage participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and follow-up.
- Conduct study visits and neuropsychological assessments.
- Obtain medical histories, perform blood pressure screenings, and collect blood via phlebotomy as applicable.
- Process and ship biological specimens; dispense medications under physician or nurse practitioner orders.
- Manage research supplies and equipment; ensure timely, accurate documentation and data entry.
- Collaborate with investigators, research staff, IRB personnel, UPMC departments, sponsors, and monitors.
- Assist with IRB protocols, the Research Registry, brain bank pager coverage, and community outreach activities.
- Oversee and prepare IRB applications; review/audit research studies and determine next steps.
- Assess protocol feasibility and establish protocol-specific recruitment plans.
- Communicate effectively with study participants and potential community recruits; identify community education opportunities.
- Facilitate research/project team meetings; resolve complex data collection issues.
Requirements
- Master’s degree preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education and/or experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
- Understanding of applicable policies and procedures; ability to exercise independent judgment and resolve unique problems through information collection and interpretation.
Physical Effort
- Ability to navigate a university setting.
- Capable of sedentary work for long periods.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
