Clinical Research Coordinator II - Pediatrics Gastroenterology

About the role

The Holtz lab at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to support the Maternal Offspring Microbiome (MOM) study. This observational clinical study aims to understand how the infant gut is first populated with bacteria and viruses, specifically investigating whether babies obtain their microbiome from their environment, caregivers, or pets.

You will coordinate all phases of the study, working closely with healthcare professionals to recruit and enroll participants, conduct study visits (both in-hospital and in participants’ homes), ensure compliance with protocol and regulatory requirements, enter and analyze data, and assist with laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing research project plans, interpreting results, and collaborating on manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Coordinate the development of study forms, questionnaires, and research techniques; prepare instructional manuals for data collection and coding.
• Stay current with scientific literature to inform study planning.
• Manage all phases of the study/protocol, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies (IRB, IACUC).
• Establish record-keeping systems; assess participant progress; report and investigate adverse events.
• Make protocol management decisions, including when to notify physicians, stop participant inclusion, or recommend protocol adjustments.
• Serve as liaison with funding or sponsoring agencies.
• Evaluate and interpret clinical data; prepare reports, presentations, and analyses.
• Recruit and enroll study participants, explain study purposes, and obtain informed consent.
• Conduct study visits in hospitals and participants’ homes.
• Perform data entry and assist with lab procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2 years of clinical research experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within one month of hire; online-only certifications without a skills assessment are not sufficient).
• Preferred skills: experience with REDCap, Excel, EPIC, clinical study protocols, database management, research projects, spreadsheet analysis, and statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS).
• Detail-oriented, strong communicator, and able to provide own transportation to study visits.
• Flexible schedule with availability for some weekends, evenings, and early mornings.

Pay

Salary range: $54,600 – $81,900 per year.
