Clinical Research Coordinator I
About the Role

This position is responsible for screening patients for participation in clinical trials, enrolling patients onto these studies, monitoring protocol implementation, completing required forms, and reporting results. Works closely with other clinical research staff and is based in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Independently or in conjunction with other clinical research staff and/or research nurse, recruits and enrolls patients onto clinical trials according to study protocols.
- Assesses patients' eligibility for inclusion in a particular protocol based on contracts with physicians and nurses and knowledge of the protocol.
- Checks all eligibility and ineligibility criteria with the patients' medical record and verifies information with clinical research nurse and/or principal investigator.
- Discusses informed consent with patients and interacts with patients prior to entering the study and throughout the entire treatment.
- Assists with scheduling appointments and follow-up tests.
- Learns protocol and monitors strict adherence to protocols by physicians, nurses, and patients; reviews protocol requirements with them.
- Identifies any problems with protocol compliance and notifies principal investigator and/or research nurse; begins to learn how to independently resolve problems with protocol.
- Extracts data on protocol patients from hospital records, outpatient charts, and private physician office records to complete case report forms required by specific protocols; enters data into a computerized system.
- Assists clinic staff in obtaining insurance approval for patient protocol participation and scheduling tests, arranging admissions, or outpatient visits for patients.
- Assists investigator with correspondence with IRB.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 0-1 years of related work experience required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).

Work Environment
- Work requires close attention to task for accuracy.
- Intermittent breaks during the workday do not compromise work quality.
- Work routine is fairly consistent, but judgment is needed to respond to events when necessary.
- Health Care Worker Status: HCW 2 – Regular, day-to-day face-to-face contact (e.g., front desk receptionist, interpreters, transporters).
- May be required to work varied shifts.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $21.64 - $26.50 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, and other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.
