The Role

The Clinical Psychologist will have responsibility for providing evidence-based psychological assessment and intervention services to people living within SESLHD who have end of life and palliative care needs in the last 12-24 months of life, and are known to the Supportive Care Service (SCS) at St George Hospital (SGH).

This role will also focus on building the capability of inpatient clinicians by supporting them to identify unmet palliative care and end-of-life needs, promoting early referrals to specialist palliative care services, and acting as a conduit for communication between the ward-based clinicians and the palliative care multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Requirements

  • Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, with Endorsement in Clinical Psychology (or eligibility to progress to same), along with a minimum two-year full-time equivalent Master or doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of psychological assessment and intervention with clients experiencing significant illness and/or end of life care.
  • Capacity to design and implement short and medium term, individual and group treatment protocols for a range of psychological issues.
  • Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to quality improvement and research.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes and evidence of a current Class C driver's licence.
