About the Role

The Clinical Pharmacist promotes the safe and appropriate use, proper storage, and distribution of medications as required for patient care in accordance with professional standards and practices. Provides consultative services to patients and healthcare providers. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultative services and clinical expertise to evaluate and improve medication usage and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Promotes continued improvement within the pharmacy scope of practice.
  • Processes orders and prescriptions to provide medications and pharmaceutical supplies ordered by physicians and authorized medical practitioners.
  • Advises physicians, healthcare staff, residents, and patients in the safe administration of medication.
  • Follows established, participates in the development of, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures for medication safety, regulatory requirements, quality standards, and compliance activities.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
  • Preferred: Doctorate in Pharmacy
  • Required: Pharmacist license from the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy
  • Preferred: Pharmacist license from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy

Skills

  • Understands and interprets complex written materials and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with information systems, automated, and technical pharmacy equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in a wide range of circumstances.
  • Effective planner with strong skills in scheduling and organizing workflows.

Supervision

Guides the daily activities of pharmacy technicians and/or residents in the assigned work area.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform activities such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations, including on-call availability.
