Duties & Responsibilities

Provides drug information services by responding to questions regarding medication compatibilities, adverse drug events, regimens, dosing, interactions, storage and disposal, compounding, therapeutic uses of medications and pharmaceutical supplies in a timely manner; using a systematic approach to effectively searching, retrieving, and evaluating the literature and appropriately communicating and applying the information to the patient care situation; and assisting with the development, maintenance, and implementation of hospital and department policy and procedures related to medication use, storage, restrictions, and administration.

Sustains and implements quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).

Sustains clinical pharmacy services throughout the organization by providing pharmaceutical care for pediatric patients of all age ranges through participation in multi-disciplinary team rounds and/or care, emergency response, education, guidance, interpretation and analysis of medication related therapeutic issues; documenting pharmaceutical interventions according to departmental standards; performing therapeutic drug monitoring and disease outcome analysis; and timely verification of medication orders in an electronic health record system.

Participate in general pharmacy operations throughout the organization through appropriate medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory control.

Provides oversight to pharmacy technicians, interns, residents, and students as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of one year pharmacy residency
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who have at least one year of pediatric pharmacy experience and/or have completed a residency in pediatrics
  • One year of pharmacy work experience accepted in lieu of residency
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted)
  • State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Pharmacist license

Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree

Skills

Knowledge of pediatric patient care, ability to apply specialized skills and knowledge in clinical settings, proficiency in therapeutic drug monitoring, strong communication and documentation skills, ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary care teams, and proficiency in electronic health record systems.
