About the role
The Clinically Skilled Staff Pharmacist ensures appropriate and accurate drug distribution to hospital inpatients and outpatients, evaluates drug regimens, and participates in clinical areas by making rounds, interviewing patients, and formulating drug care plans. This role oversees Pharmacy Technicians and serves as a resource to the department and other hospital staff.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates competency, individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team, in performing clinical care and assessment of all patient populations.
- Processes medication orders as written by a physician or other legitimate prescriber.
- Evaluates medication therapy to determine appropriateness of drug regimen as it relates to medical condition, treatment plan, and patient age.
- Checks technician-completed tasks and ensures all parenteral products are prepared properly.
- Participates in clinical areas, researches preparation techniques for commercially unavailable products, and provides drug information to patients and health care professionals.
- Maintains professional competency through continuing education and participates in departmental quality assurance activities.
- Assists in the management of pharmacy inventory and preserves patient confidentiality.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Completion of clinical skills modules 1-8 required within one year of hire.
- Current pharmacist licensure within the State of Rhode Island.
- BLS (CPR) certification desired.
- Hospital experience preferred.
