Clinical Nurse Specialist, Hematology/Oncology
About the role
A clinical nurse leader for a program or area of nursing practice. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of focus, such as patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. Partners with the nurse manager in leading the nursing clinical practice area. Journey level for an advanced practice clinical nurse specialist.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of focus, such as patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system.
- Partners with the nurse manager in leading the nursing clinical practice area.
- Conducts evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Provides education, training, and direction to nursing staff.
- Develops positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies.
Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in hematology/oncology.
- In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient/family educational consulting and resources.
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required.
- Advanced skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey complex and/or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner.
- Master’s degree from an accredited Nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California (CA BRN).
- Current Clinical Nurse Specialist certification in the State of California (CA BRN).
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Clinical Nurse Specialist or Advanced Practice Nurse specialty certification (e.g. ACHPN, ANP-BC, AGCNS-BC) or obtained within one year of hire.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $225,253 - $253,629 (Annual Rate).
Pay
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
