Clinical Nurse (RN)-Cardiac Surgery Intermediate Care (MFT3B)

The Clinical Nurse II position is available in Unit Bio MFT 3B, a 16-bed intermediate and acute care unit focusing on cardiac and thoracic surgery.

About the role

The Malone Family Tower (MFT) is an eight-story addition to Maine Medical Center, offering 40 pre- and post-surgical beds, 19 procedure rooms, and 96 universal patient rooms. The tower was designed with the inspiration of Maine's rugged coastline, featuring a striking, faceted facade and a central atrium that enhances natural light and creates welcoming spaces.

Responsibilities

• Supports the mission, vision, and values of Maine Medical Center by exhibiting behaviors such as excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family centered care, commitment to the community, and accountability.
• Assesses, diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans, implements, documents, and evaluates the effects of nursing care according to national standards of nursing practice and within the guidelines and policies and procedures of Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Board of Nursing.
• Coordinates patient and family care from initial contact with the health care system through various settings including inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community care.
• Provides care based on basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.
• Interacts effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members using interpersonal and communication skills.
• Identifies and addresses potential crisis situations involving patients and/or families.
• Promotes a healing environment for patients and families.
• Demonstrates the required knowledge and technical skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.

Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine. Certification in relevant specialty preferred.

Experience: Meets all requirements of Clinical Nurse I. Completion of Level I usually achieved by 12 months of employment. Cardiac experience preferred.

Basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.

Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Analytical ability sufficient to identify changes in patients' conditions and initiate appropriate action.

Ability to identify potential crisis situations involving patients and/or families and initiate appropriate action.

Demonstrates a caring nursing practice and promotes a healing environment for patients and families.

Demonstrates the required knowledge and technical skills to care for most patient populations on the unit.
