Clinical Nurse Pre-op/post-op/PACU

Additional location details: Barnes Jewish Hospital – Main Campus, Pre-op/Post-op/PACU, Plaza Tower West. 3×12-hour shifts (5:30 AM–6:00 PM pre/post) with 24 hours of call per schedule. 90-bed PACU recovering neuro, transplant, ortho, ENT, cardio, vascular, thoracic, trauma, and spine patients.

The PACU nursing team works in a fast-paced environment that tests professional judgment and critical thinking skills, fostering tremendous growth. Nurses collaborate with world-renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists on unique and complex procedures, utilizing the latest technologies and treatments. The role includes providing traditional PACU care, managing critically ill ICU patients, and participating in new initiatives such as hybrid surgical care and regional anesthesia.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, post-treatment home care needs, and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Engages in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate’s in Nursing
• Experience: No prior experience required
• Supervisor Experience: Not required
• Licenses & Certifications: RN

Preferred Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Experience: Critical care or Phase I PACU experience preferred
