Clinical Nurse Leader Emergency Department

Sign-on bonus of $20,000 for eligible, experienced Registered Nurses. This is a full-time day-shift position in the Emergency Department at Northwest Medical Center.

About the role

The RN Charge Nurse oversees the operations of the Emergency Department—a Level III Trauma Center with an Average Daily Census of 100—during assigned shifts. You will collaborate closely with nursing leadership, house supervisors, resource nurses, physicians, mid-level providers, dedicated Respiratory Therapy, and Environmental Services personnel to ensure effective, high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support nursing and support staff; delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately.
• Evaluate staff performance, provide feedback, and coach to maintain high standards of care.
• Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care; ensure care plans are followed and adjusted as needed.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and resolve issues related to patient flow or care delivery.
• Ensure effective communication among physicians, patients, families, and hospital departments, including managing shift handoffs and unit huddles.
• Monitor patient flow, manage bed assignments, and optimize resource utilization within the unit.
• Conduct employee and patient rounding to evaluate care delivery and satisfaction.
• Monitor adherence to safety standards, infection control protocols, and hospital policies; address non-compliance promptly.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance patient outcomes and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Ensure necessary medical supplies are available and properly utilized while maintaining cost-effective resource management.
• Facilitate ongoing education and professional development for nursing staff; ensure training needs are met.
• Lead infection prevention efforts by conducting audits, educating staff, and ensuring adherence to protocols for hand hygiene, sterilization, and use of PPE.
• Respond to emergencies within the unit, providing leadership and direct care as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience in the Emergency Department required.
• Prior leadership or charge nurse experience preferred.
• RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required.
• BCLS – Basic Life Support required.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support required.
