Clinical Nurse I - Acute Pediatric

About the Role

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served. They ensure quality care is provided efficiently and safely, consistent with unit standards, and demonstrate performance aligned with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Re-assesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends requiring intervention.
• Develops and implements a measurable, individualized plan of care within established time frames.
• Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on interpretation of facts and evaluation of patient outcomes; modifies the plan of care as needed.
• Participates in patient and significant other health education and discharge planning.
• Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.
• Evaluates the plan of care and performs various Point of Care testing procedures.

Staff Responsibilities

• Utilizes effective communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes.
• Delegates unit work assignments appropriately and coordinates team tasks.
• Makes adjustments based on patient and unit needs and follows up on delegated tasks.
• Uses the appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff and students on the unit.
• Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff with prompt and courteous service.
• Promotes a positive work environment through professional and supportive attitudes.
• Collaborates with others to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Customer Relations

• Exhibits behaviors that create high levels of patient and customer satisfaction, respecting rights, needs, and confidentiality.
• Demonstrates effective communication and human relations skills to promote harmony and teamwork.
• Presents behaviors that maintain the hospital’s credibility, integrity, and positive image.
• Supports the mission, goals, and operations of the hospital, contributing to continuous service improvement.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
• Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license.
• BLS Certification required or must be obtained within 2 weeks of hire date.
• All other required certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire date (if not already held).

Skills

• Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served.
• Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients’ rights in care delivery.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient.
