Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient, and family advocacy, and demonstrated expertise of the seclusion and restraint process.
- Meet with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles.
- Consistently demonstrate support to patient and the treatment process.
- Maintains an efficient, safe, and productive work environment through delegation of staff assignments.
- Provides necessary staff coaching and support, under the direction of nursing leadership.
- Oversees orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed.
- Aids in the admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
- Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
- Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives.
- Aids in staff scheduling.
- Manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.
- Assists with inventory control and manages supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned, which may include but are not limited to: maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning, and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
Education/Training Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, (BSN) preferred.
- Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred.
- Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
- Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
