Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee patient care provided in the inpatient departments.
- Interact with the multidisciplinary team to learn the status of patient’s care.
- Provide direct services according to professional discipline and training.
- Delegate assignments.
- Complete required medical record documentation and correspondence in an accurate and timely manner; monitor the same with staff.
- Interact regularly with medical staff to promote open communication, mutual problem-solving, positive relations, and to provide quality services.
- Meet with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles.
- Consistently demonstrate support to patient and the treatment process.
- Act as an advocate for patients and their families, assisting in conflict resolution as needed.
- Cookien management.
- Attend/Conduct treatment team and staffings.
- Ensure environmental safety rounds are being completed.
- Communicate patient acuity regarding staffing needs.
- Support and implement the clinical program in conjunction with the Medical Director, the Director of Nursing, the Manager of Nursing Services, and Managers of other departments.
- Suggest program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
- Use knowledge of patient rights to act as patient advocate and to respond to patient grievances.
- Support resource evaluation and equipment maintenance.
- Maintain primary responsibility to communicate program performance information to the Manger/Director.
- Direct services to assure optimal standards of care and practice.
- Aid in the development of measuring goal achievement.
- Communicate goals to the staff.
- Establish goals for the programs that are consistent with the goals and mission of the Hospital, in collaboration with key personnel.
- Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (Joint Commission), and other regulatory agency compliance regulations.
- Involvement in learning and applying standards relevant to the Rogers Improvement System department.
- Participation in services/seminars and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness of regulations.
- Participation in Performance Improvement teams that lead to improvement or risk reduction in own and other Hospital areas.
- Participation in Hospital committees, meetings, and team projects as requested.
- Demonstrate punctuality and preparedness.
- Facilitate a meeting and keep it on track.
- Contribute in a positive, solution-focused manner.
- Promote a team by example and by participating in workload completion, when necessary.
- Interact with employees in a sensitive, positive manner.
- Understand and use the Human Resources policies and procedures manual.
- Involve Manager/Director and Human Resources staff in any potentially volatile employee-related situation.
- Communicate with employees promptly when incidents arise that may be a detriment to their performance or to the Hospital in general and share information with the Manager.
- Assist employees in professional growth.
- Aid in the development of performance standards by which employees can be measured.
- Aid in the development measurements for competence within each area of responsibility.
- Aid management with recruitment, hiring and training employees according to accurate and current job descriptions.
- Conduct self in a professional manner.
- Show organizational skills that promote timely response to all inquiries and to project completion.
- Communicate with all individuals in a positive and professional manner.
- Attempt to resolve individual issues with peers in a positive, calm manner, with a focus on solution.
- Comply with the Hospital’s policies and procedures and the Infection Control and Employee Health programs.
- Project a professional image by wearing appropriate professional attire.
Education/Training Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- BSN Preferred.
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
- Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse License.
- Minimum of two years of experience as an RN preferred with experience in behavioral health.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
- Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
