Anne Arundel Dermatology is hiring a Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic in Knoxville, TN. Knoxville Dermatology Group (KDG) is one of the largest groups of board-certified dermatologists in Tennessee. All physicians are board-certified with extensive dermatology experience. With thirteen providers between two locations, West Knoxville & Sevierville, we treat patients for all dermatology needs.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow.
  • Set up procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
  • Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
  • Check to-dos/Nurse line.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule.
  • Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and ensure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Ordering, sorting, restocking, and inventory of all supplies.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients; thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
  • Administer anesthesia/injections for procedures.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Requirements

  • Able to triage patient problems.
  • Familiar with and compliant with OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, fax, copier, scanner).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
