Clinical Manager Critical Care
About the Role
The Nursing (RN) Clinical Manager is responsible for management and oversight of their assigned operational unit(s). The RN Clinical Manager translates and supports the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department in the delivery of nursing services on one or more designated patient care units. This role has delegated authority to make decisions in patient care delivery, human resource management, and budgetary development and compliance.

Responsibilities

- Maintains 24-hour responsibility for one or more patient units, directing and coordinating resources for patient and family care.
- Supports a trauma-informed, least restrictive healthcare environment free from coercion, retaliation, or discipline, fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.
- Monitors and evaluates patient care assignments based on needs and acuity.
- Sets strategic vision for the unit using Magnet standards as a foundation for practice and aligns unit-based goals with departmental and institutional objectives.
- Schedules and leads regular staff meetings to communicate operational updates, quality and policy changes, and organizational news.
- Develops employees through educational opportunities, growth experiences, and ongoing assessment of nursing care.
- Ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency requirements and monitors adherence to standards.
- Collaborates with Environmental Safety Program Manager, Safety Officer, and hospital committees to maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Implements unit-level Quality Improvement activities aligned with the Hospital’s Quality Improvement Plan.
- Participates in hospital, departmental, and system-wide committees as needed.
- Evaluates staff performance, provides developmental feedback, and conducts annual reviews.
- Follows hospital performance counseling processes for disciplinary issues.
- Supports and participates in Nursing, Educational, and Research programs, collaborating with Professional Practice Development staff.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff and evaluates their performance.
- Develops, monitors, and manages capital and operating budgets for the assigned patient area, completing monthly variance reports and adjusting operations as needed.
- Controls expenses and analyzes budget variances to align with fiscal strategies.
- Utilizes patient classification systems to identify budgetary needs for patient care.
- Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Interviews applicants and recommends hiring conditions in coordination with Human Resources.
- Assesses and responds to internal and external customer needs.
- Obtains and maintains Safety Care Level 1 certification if overseeing staff required to have it.
Requirements
- BSN or active matriculation in a BSN Program; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- Required certifications per department standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care across the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
- Three to five years of relevant experience.
Pay
$105,705.60 - $211,369.60 annually.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM.
- 8-hour daily shifts.
