Responsibilities

  • Performs analyses on blood, tissue, and body fluids to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients.
  • Testing is performed in specialized laboratories and may include highly skilled manual techniques or automated testing using sophisticated instrumentation.
  • Works with multiple computer systems to retrieve information and report results.
  • May work with minimal supervision and may assist with specimen collection.
  • Must strictly adhere to safety protocols to work with infectious specimens, chemicals and other hazards.
  • Must be capable of producing accurate results under time constraints, multi-tasking, and performing in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Experience with operation and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and assay systems is desirable.
  • Must possess good communication skills and be able to work closely with others.
  • Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, on-call, and weekend work assignments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate or student graduating within three months with a bachelor's degree in:
  • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree in:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a biological science (such as, but may not be limited to Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, etc.) is required.
  • Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT)
  • Or Bachelor's degree plus Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT), as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
  • Candidate must satisfy one more of the following qualifications to be considered:
  • Hold an MLS/CLS degree
  • Are a current contracted (contingent) employee within the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) seeking permanent placement in another DLMP Laboratory
  • Are a current Mayo Clinic employee, not currently in a CLT/CLS role
  • Former employee of Mayo Clinic
  • Former Summer Laboratory Science Program participant
  • Are graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Science Program

$32.43 - $48.66 / hour

Hours/Pay Period: 80

Schedule Details: Varies; Please be aware that training schedules may be different than the shift accepted upon hire. Initial training in many labs can take 2-6 months before new hires are moved to their work schedules accepted upon hire.

Weekend Schedule: Varies; Candidate must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, on-call, and weekend work assignments.
