Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Core Laboratory, Day Shift
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist/ Technician is a valuable member of our team, providing clinical services to our patient population. They maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices and adhere to these practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties
- Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis in the Department of Laboratories.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance.
- Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer protocols as assigned.
- Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols.
- Perform high complexity coagulation/chemistry testing using both manual and automated methods.
- Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique.
- Achieve and validate new procedures.
- Engage in continuing education to enhance the department, including attending conferences and offsite training.
- Interact professionally with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers, and other members of the hospital community.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
- Work every other weekend. Pass days and holidays as assigned.
Qualifications
- SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- SL-2: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- SL-3: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with a minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred: Generalist with a strong background in Hematology and Chemistry. ASCP Certification. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Biological or Life Sciences. Master’s Degree.

Shifts and Essential Functions
All Hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position may be designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Anticipated Pay Range
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $89,142 - $113,055. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
