Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
About the role
The Laboratory Supervisor at Ellipse Diagnostics is responsible for overseeing laboratory quality systems, technical operations, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures the laboratory maintains full CLIA and COLA compliance while supporting operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain the laboratory Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) program
Ensure full compliance with CLIA, COLA, and applicable regulatory requirements
Develop and maintain QA/QC objectives, policies, and monitoring systems
Investigate quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Maintain CAP proficiency testing programs and address any deficiencies
Perform internal audits and prepare the laboratory for regulatory inspections
Assist with regulatory responses and corrective action plans
Ensure proper qualification, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment
Troubleshoot instrumentation, testing methods, and laboratory processes
Maintain operational oversight of instrumentation and testing methods
Review laboratory data to ensure accuracy, precision, and compliance
Supervise and coordinate technical staff activities
Train laboratory personnel on procedures, quality systems, and best practices
Document and maintain training records and competency assessments
Lead by example through hands-on training and mentorship
Promote a culture of scientific understanding and accountability
Assist with development and validation of new laboratory tests and instrumentation
Support laboratory expansion and process improvements
Collaborate with the General Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Director on strategic initiatives
Assist with technical duties when necessary
Qualifications
Education requirements must meet CLIA/CMS laboratory supervisor standards. Typical qualifying degrees include: Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and related biological sciences.
Licensure required if applicable under state Department of Health regulations.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience with clinical laboratory QA/QC programs
Experience maintaining CLIA/COLA regulatory compliance
Strong understanding of proficiency testing and corrective action processes
Experience with LC-MS/MS instrumentation and troubleshooting
Strong organizational and leadership skills
