Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comparative hematology, clinical chemistry testing, blood bank, urinalysis and coagulation testing as well as assist in the development of new diagnostic tests applicable to animal species.
- Actively participate in sample analysis along with other technicians.
- Ensure even distribution and coordination of work in the laboratory.
- Ensure analysis conducted for investigators follows the guidelines set forth by the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Act.
- Cook up research services for biomedical investigations.
- Communicate with clinical pathologists, clinicians, professional students and biomedical investigators.
- Train emergency technicians.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The handling of any biological materials may present some risk of exposure to hazardous materials. Proper safety protocols must be maintained when handling and disposing of all materials.
- Allergies to hay, straw or animal dander may cause discomfort based on the location within the College of Veterinary Medicine.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or a closely related field.
- Experience with state of the art clinical laboratory analyzers.
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) Board Certification.
- 1-2 years of laboratory experience.
- Expertise in quality control and laboratory information systems with interest in test development and application.
