Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Microbiology (Evening/Overnight)

Shift

Rotating shifts from Wednesday to Sunday, 7:00 PM to 3:30 AM.

Microbiology Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintains instrumentation for AST and ID monitoring.
  • Performs Quality Control (QC).
  • Carries out preventive maintenance of instruments and sterility studies.
  • Set up identification and susceptibility tests on microorganisms.
  • Conducts PCR molecular testing according to lab procedures.
  • Releases microbiology results in a timely manner (TAT).
  • Reads and releases results of non-culture kit tests as per lab procedures.
  • Performs tests in the microbiology lab and assists with assigned duties under the Micro Lab Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
  • Must meet CLIA requirements for Microbiology testing personnel in high-complexity labs.
  • Must hold certification from ASCP, AMT, or equivalent.

  • Fulfills laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Handles potentially infectious materials according to safety protocols.
  • Maintains proficiency testing records and documentation.
  • Documents quality control activities, instrument and procedure calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Adheres to quality control policies and performs corrective actions when necessary.
  • Performs complex and judgment-based tests as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of test theory and performs equipment maintenance.
  • Validates and correlates test procedures to ensure instrument accuracy and precision.
  • Reviews and corrects patient reports, ensuring accuracy before releasing results.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and inventory levels.
  • Prioritizes work duties and adapts to staffing and scheduling changes.
  • Assumes responsibilities of the Laboratory Manager and Microbiology Supervisor during emergencies.
  • Assists in quality control standards and problem-solving.
  • Runs the Auto-Verification program and confirms critical value testing.
  • Trains and orientates new employees.
  • Assists with clerical tasks as needed.
  • Ensures timely completion of tests.
