Primary Responsibilities
- Ensures specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing according to the lab's criteria.
- Changes or prepares reagents, controls as necessary and records such in log.
- Labels, accesses, and distributes specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing.
- Operates both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation.
- Troubleshoots basic instrument malfunctions and documents in the appropriate action log.
- Determines when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance.
- Manages and prepares samples for testing per Lab protocol.
- Aids with specialized functions, such as, but not limited to, quality assurance, quality control, QC review, statistical evaluations, and clinical surveys (CLIA/ COLA/CAP).
- Documents and delivers laboratory results and patient information according to the Lab's HIPAA-compliance policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned (Inventory, temperature monitoring, etc.).
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, OR Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program recognized by the ASCP Board as qualifying for the MLT.
- Required MT/CLS/MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent).
- 2 years of clinical laboratory experience performing moderate and high complexity testing preferred.
