Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS II)

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and procedures in documenting all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Identify and address problems affecting test performance, either independently or by notifying supervisors.
• Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines as introduced.
• Maintain and document the daily, weekly, monthly, or as-needed operation of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Review and verify the accuracy of patient results before releasing or reporting them.
• Recognize and account for age-specific variations in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples and collaborate with other laboratories only after reporting results to relevant authorities.
• Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics, as necessary.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Comply with department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
• In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
• Assist with tasks related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Point-of-Care Testing (POC).

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
• Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $45.68 to $61.47. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
