About the role

This position is responsible for collecting and processing patient blood and non-blood specimens, assisting with specimen preparation and transport, performing routine laboratory tests, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and processes patient blood and non-blood specimens accurately and timely.
  • Assists with specimen preparation, receipt, and transport.
  • Provides phone support for patient care areas.
  • Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems.
  • Trains new team members and students in standard work processes.
  • Prepares lab orders, performs routine laboratory tests, and maintains documentation.
  • Receives and collects urine specimens for routine tests.
  • Maintains supplies inventory and reports test results to clinical staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of specimen collection devices and tubes.
  • Performs minor laboratory procedures under minimal supervision.
  • Handles blood and body fluids, deals with infectious patients, and follows safety procedures.
  • Works in a fast-paced clinical environment with biohazardous materials and other hazards.
  • May lift up to 50 pounds and handle sharp instruments.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in phlebotomy preferred for facilities where phlebotomy is an assigned duty.

$19.80 - $29.70 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
