Clinical Laboratory Assistant

Responsibilities

• Receive and check clinical specimens for accuracy.
• Accession specimens and enter orders into the laboratory information system.
• Distribute worksheets to medical technologists.
• Ensure results are reported to clients.
• Aid in daily processes in the Pathology Department/Clinical Laboratory.
• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and record-keeping.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing.
• Adhere to quality control policies and document all activities.
• Identify and address issues affecting test performance or reporting.
• Order and maintain supplies and consumables inventory.
• Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established specifications.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in handling patient specimens from accession to storage.
• Read and follow technical procedures in the Standard Operating Procedure Manual.
• Aid in Quality Assurance (QA) administration.
• Collect and accession sample data if necessary.
• Comply with Federal and State regulations.
• Have good hand-eye coordination, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Show strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
• Display a strong sense of personal accountability and responsibility.
• Work independently and as part of a team, exhibit self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.

Education and Experience

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Two (2) years of related experience are required.
