Clinical Lab Scientist Part-Time Varied

Assures validity of test results, applies criteria for specimen rejection, and demonstrates knowledge of Quality Control, calibration, and standardization of instruments. Exercises judgment in interpreting Quality Control data and troubleshoots instruments while performing routine preventive maintenance. Familiar with laboratory computer systems for ordering, reporting, verifying results, and downtime procedures. Knowledgeable about laws and regulations applicable to the laboratory and participates in training new employees.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care (Infant, Pediatric, Adult, Geriatrics), including safety measures, physiological normal values, skin integrity, behavior, and motor skills.
• Communicates effectively and clearly with patients and team members.
• Incorporates HPMC’s mission of “quality care with compassion and respect” into daily performance.
• Reports problems or concerns to Supervisor and responds to priority specifications for tests.
• Understands and verbalizes Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) goals/targets and participates in unit and hospital action plans to improve HCAHPS scores.
• Uses AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) in all settings.
• Supports compliance and the Code of Conduct by maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and integrity, and adhering to laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in laboratory technology or related field.
• One year of experience in a hospital laboratory; phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with physicians and clinicians.
• Ability to work in a union environment.

Qualifications

• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
• Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or obtain within 30 days of employment).
• Assault Response Competency (ARC) certification (required within 30 days of hire).

Schedule

• Shift: Varied (Evenings and Nights).
• Hours: 8-hour shifts, variable schedule.
• Weekly Hours: 24.
