Absolutely Essential Job Functions

  • Analyzes and prioritizes work duties.
  • Solves technical problems and identifies difficulties during routine testing.
  • Adheres to laboratory quality control policies, documents all activities, calibrations, and maintenance, and approves appropriate technical coordinator.
  • Develops a recording system to document necessary controls in work steps.
  • Develops and installs quality control standards to ensure accuracy in test results.
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees and students.
  • Assists the section supervisor in reviewing and solving quality control problems.
  • Performs the role of a section supervisor when required.
  • Identifies and corrects problems affecting test performance or reporting, or notifies supervisors immediately.
  • Contributes to a safe, organized, and efficient workplace by complying with established policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the tests being performed.
  • Ensures professional development through current competency, licensure, and credentialing files.
  • Trains and guides staff and trainees as appropriate.
  • Follows laboratory policies and procedures, especially when systems are out of performance specifications.
  • Handles and processes specimens, performs tests, reports results, maintains records, and evaluates work systems for improvements.
  • Assists in preparing and writing procedure manuals, calibrates instruments, assesses equipment accuracy, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, and reviews outgoing reports.
  • Maintains proficiency testing sample records.
  • Performs assigned tests and complex procedures with professional judgment.
  • Performs phlebotomy or assists in the front office as needed.
  • Promotes professionalism and cooperation by interacting calmly, courteously, and helpfully.
  • Provides accurate and timely test results by following established procedures and policies.
  • Interprets test results in relation to patient care and different age groups.
  • Recognizes and adapts to administrative changes in staffing and scheduling.
  • Understands and responds to deviations from norms scientifically and theoretically.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field.
  • Experience: Microbiology experience preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid State of California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Pay and Benefits

The hourly salary rate range for this position is $50.76 - $68.22.
