Clinical Lab Scientist Full-Time Nights

Responsibilities

• Assures validity of test results.
• Applies criteria for specimen rejection.
• Demonstrates knowledge of Quality Control, calibration, and standardization of instruments.
• Exercises good judgment and proper interpretation of Quality Control data and assumes responsibility for decisions.
• Troubleshoots instruments and performs routine preventive maintenance.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the laboratory computer system regarding ordering, reports, verification of results, and downtime procedures.
• Is familiar with laws and regulations that apply to the laboratory.
• Participates in the training of new employees.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care, including identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings, assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills, and activities that place patients at risk.
• Communicates effectively in a clear, concise, and understandable manner for populations including Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatrics.
• Incorporates HPMC’s mission of "quality care with compassion and respect" into daily performance of job functions.
• Communicates problems or concerns to Supervisor.
• Responds acceptably to priority specifications for tests.
• Understands and can verbalize VBP goals/targets.
• Consistently participates in unit and hospital-specific action plans to improve HCAHPS scores.
• Uses AIDET in all settings.
• Understands individual accountability for achieving core measures, HCAHPS, and other VBP goals.
• Consistently supports compliance and the Code of Conduct by maintaining privacy and confidentiality, protecting organizational assets, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws, regulations, accreditation, and licensure requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in laboratory technology or related field.
• One year of experience in a hospital laboratory.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Extensive experience working with physicians and other clinicians, with examples of successful collaborative efforts.
• Ability to work in a union environment.

Qualifications

• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
• Fire Card.
• Assault Response Competency (ARC) (within 30 days of employment).
