Clinical Lab Scientist
About the role
As a Clinical Lab Scientist at UP Health System Portage, you will contribute to a vital mission dedicated to making communities healthier. You will follow standardized procedures, operate laboratory equipment, analyze test results, and perform various technical lab procedures.
Responsibilities
- Follows standardized procedures and prepares samples for testing.
- Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.
- Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/document results per organizational standards.
- Runs tests and analyzes results to be reported to the patient, physician, or registered nurse.
- Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed.
- Performs preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned.
- Collects biological specimens and prepares and forwards them to appropriate reference laboratories according to departmental procedures.
- Provides instruction to students/new employees with regard to procedures and departmental policies.
Requirements
- A current ASCP Certification.
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- ASCP Certification.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS).
Qualifications
- Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed.
- Performs all preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned.
- Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis.
- Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures.
- Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.
- Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
- Performs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.

The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The schedule for this role is PRN with varied shifts.
