Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center, Quality Control Laboratory (QCL) is recruiting several full-time (100% FTE) Clinical Lab Scientists (Level 1 or 2) for first or second shift. We seek motivated individuals with strong critical thinking, communication, and independent work skills. Experience in blood banking is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex quality control testing on blood and blood components, as well as high-level evaluation, review, and interpretation of test results.
- Candidates must be able to perform with minimal supervision, be proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval functions, and communicate effectively across departments.
- Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal.
- Respond to other healthcare professionals' questions regarding results.
- Clerically process incoming patient blood samples.
- Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate.
- Prepare laboratory reagents.
- Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
- Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate.
- Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Compensation And Schedule
- Sign on Bonus: $5,000
- Starting pay range (based on experience): Clinical Lab Scientist 1 - $28-30/hour, Clinical Lab Scientist 2 - $31-34/hour
- Shifts Available (10-hour shifts): First Shift: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Second Shift: 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM
- Candidates will be expected to work rotating weekends - 1 to 2 weekends per month - 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Shift differential: $4/hour
- No on-call hours required
Minimum Requirements
- Clinical Lab Scientist 1: Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other related biological science. Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
- Clinical Lab Scientist 2: Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other related biological science. Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
- Required Trainings/Certifications: Require MLT or MLS Registry Eligibility and must obtain ASCP certificate within one year of date of hire. OR- Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other related biological science. Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Trainings/Certifications: Require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP).
- Required Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience.
