Clinical Lab Hematology Scientist Lead
About the role
As our Clinical Lab Hematology Scientist Lead, you will coordinate and participate in all activities of the assigned laboratory section. In collaboration with leadership, you will assist in administrative functions and help ensure the efficient daily operation of the Laboratory Department. The CLS Lead works alongside CLS-I and CLS-II staff and rotates shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. Duties are tailored to the specialty/subspecialty of the assigned Clinical Lab. Active collaboration with other department leads is required to maintain and improve efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and uphold the values of Dignity Health.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities in the assigned laboratory specialty/subspecialty to comply with accrediting organization standards, ensuring efficient use of resources and quality patient care.
- Design Quality Assurance plans for the assigned specialty/subspecialty.
- Develop and monitor key indicators of quality (preanalytical, analytic, and post-analytic activities) to detect problems and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in establishing and implementing corrective actions when opportunities for improvement are identified.
- Validate methods and procedures, establish quality control programs (frequency, data review, required actions when QC fails), and preventative maintenance programs according to accrediting agency standards.
- Review Quality Control, proficiency testing evaluation, patient data, and physician complaints as part of QA activities.
- Take immediate action if an unexpected trend occurs and ensure instrumentation functions within acceptable parameters.
- Recognize deficiencies or erroneous results and take appropriate action or seek assistance.
- Research problems related to the section and follow through to completion.
- Communicate daily with the laboratory manager and/or pathologist to evaluate problems promptly.
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist with demonstrated ability to supervise and instruct.
- Valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, licensed by Lab Field Services, CDPH.
- MT(ASCP) registration desirable.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions exactly and exercise good judgment in decision-making.
- Ability to work professionally and conscientiously under high volume and STAT conditions.
- Effective communication with doctors, staff, patients, and co-workers.
- Knowledge of scientific theory of laboratory tests and workflow, with the ability to perform tests accurately and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic management courses are highly desirable.

Pay
$52.15 - $77.58 per hour.
