Clinical Lab Assistant I - Phlebotomist- SEIU (40 hours/week occasional Saturday required)

Primary Duties
- Performs venipuncture and capillary specimen collection on patients of all age groups, and accurately identifies and labels all specimens following established laboratory protocol.
- Uses the laboratory information system or other reference laboratory’s web-based applications to independently solve complex issues in a sensitive, caring, and timely manner.
- Processes all specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol including the proper handling, centrifugation, storage, packaging, and transport.
- Responsible for collecting all insurance/financial information necessary for proper billing.
- Demonstrates knowledge of requirements for collecting ABN’s and filling out MSPQ information.
- Accurately enters orders and patient demographic information in the laboratory information system.
- Answer and navigate calls with accuracy, efficiency, and courtesy using best customer service tactics and practices.
Requirements
- REQUIRED for the position: High School graduate or equivalent or applicable coursework to be applied to obtain required WA State Medical Assistant – Phlebotomy (MA-P) - Certification.
- Certification from an approved phlebotomy-training program with successful completion of a required internship preferred, or relevant work experience.
- Medical terminology
- State of Washington Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA-P) or equivalent.
- Have and maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory customer service or specimen processing role
- Previous training and competence in dealing with the unique needs in the range of customer service situations with clinicians and their office staff
- Working knowledge of the various government regulations specifically Medicare and the Washington state medical Test Site regulations
- Working knowledge of the College of American Pathologists (ASCP) and the Joint Commission (TJC) inspection criteria

Wage Range: $25.47 - $39.10 per hour
Schedule
Position is Mon-Friday but must be available for occasional Saturday (typically once every 2- 3 months.)
