Clinical Intern - Masters Level Spring 2027

About the Role

Hoyleton Youth and Family Services offers internship opportunities for students to gain practical work experience in social human services. This Masters level clinical internship provides experience in community counseling, including shadowing Hoyleton’s Mobile Crisis Response team and working in community-based services through school partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all requirements for academic programs are met.
• Serve as a clinical intern observing assessment, individual/group/family therapy services, and assist clients in developing functional skills.
• Observe diagnostic assessments and develop the Integrated Assessment and Treatment Plan with the client, parent/guardian, and/or case workers, following all regulations for required paperwork.
• Participate in clinical case staffing as needed, scheduling sessions to ensure consistent communication with other professional staff involved with the client.
• Engage in weekly supervision with a direct supervisor to explore areas of strength and growth.
• Complete all required clinical documentation in a timely manner based on Medicaid Rule 132 and Managed Care Organization requirements.
• Participate in Utilization Reviews of clinical files.
• Complete other duties as reasonably assigned.

• Ability to establish rapport with others to form healthy therapeutic relationships.
• Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to clients and staff.
• Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others.
• Must meet DCFS/CANTS Clearance Requirements.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.

Qualifications

• Must be a Masters level student in the field.

Skills & Training

Hoyleton has adopted the CARE (Children and Residential Experience) model, developed by Cornell University, to guide its culture and practice. CARE is grounded in six core principles: Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma Informed. Completion of CARE and TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training is required upon hire, with ongoing application expected. Employees must:

• Pass the TCI written test annually.
• Pass the TCI physical test every six months (if applicable to their role).
• Consistently participate in and apply both CARE and TCI principles, as they are essential to job performance.

Working Conditions

This position operates primarily in a professional office setting at the Fairview Heights headquarters, with occasional travel to other agency sites. The role involves periods of walking, standing, or sitting, and may require climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, or lifting materials up to 20 pounds. Minimal exposure to environmental factors such as noise, dust, or varying temperatures may occur depending on program needs and client-related activities.
