Clinical Instructor, Respiratory Therapy Program

Rowan University is accepting applications for a Clinical Instructor in the Respiratory Therapy Program. The program offers entry-level and degree-advancement tracks leading to a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy and is located in the new Health Sciences Center on the Rowan College of Jersey campus in Sewell, NJ. Both baccalaureate programs hold provisional accreditation by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and are administratively housed within the Rowan-Salva School of Nursing & Health Professions.

About the role

Clinical Instructors will lead groups of six junior respiratory therapy students in various clinical settings, focusing on developing and strengthening each student’s cognitive, psychomotor, and affective clinical skills. Instructors will sign off on procedural competencies and evaluate overall affective clinical performance. This role pioneers a new model for clinical preceptors, functioning as mentor, instructor, advisor, and clinical expert. Instructors will coordinate daily assignments with the RT department to maximize safe and effective patient care during each clinical rotation, remaining an involved resource to direct student growth throughout the experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor groups of six junior respiratory therapy students in clinical settings.
• Sign off on procedural competencies and evaluate overall affective clinical performance.
• Coordinate daily assignments with the RT department to ensure safe and effective patient care.
• Serve as a mentor, instructor, advisor, and clinical expert to students.
• Direct student growth and remain a solid, involved resource throughout the clinical experience.
• Work effectively with students, staff, faculty, administration, and clinical partners in various settings.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in respiratory therapy or a similar allied health-related field.
• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware.
• Positive attitude toward the profession of respiratory care and the role within the organization.
• Desire to assist and instruct students in clinical settings.
• Commitment to being available during agreed-upon clinical dates.
• Experience with adult and pediatric patients in floor, emergency, and critical care settings.
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity, and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Commitment to a student-centered environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS in Respiratory Therapy.
• ACLS certification.
• Three years of critical care experience.
• Additional specialty credentials (e.g., ACCS, NPS) demonstrating expertise in specialty areas.
• Previous clinical instructor or preceptor experience.

• Ability to work well and communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, administration, and clinical partners.
• Physical capacity to perform tasks associated with patient care, including handling and moving objects, performing general physical activities, and controlling machines and processes.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $75/hr.
